Hemet, Riverside County
San Jacinto Peak rises to 10,834 feet east of Hemet, often capped with snow while the valley below stays warm. South of town lies Diamond Valley Lake, the largest reservoir in Southern California, filled in the early 2000s. Fossils of mastodons and mammoths found during its construction are displayed at the Western Science Center beside the lake.
